Eating In Thailand

Initially I visited Thailand was back 1973. I was a soldier in-the United States Army and Bangkok was my first duty station. I was there for 18 months and my first meal back in America was a Huge Mac, fries and a Coke. Times have changed and take out places dot the Thailand country. From KFC to McDonalds to Pizza Hut is everywhere. They are not only in the big cities and tourist town, but exist in smaller cities like Khon Kaen and Phitsanulok. Granted, I'm a junk food junkie back the states, but often in Thailand, I have a tendency to eat the local food. Actually it's Thai junk food. I would rather eat in the local street vendors that will have a plate ready for you in less than one-minute. And, it's a great deal cheaper and nicer than the neighborhood Burger King. But, when I'm in Thailand for three or four days, sooner or later I surrender and have to have some burgers, fried chicken, or pizza. And, for my Thai partner, it's a special treat to eat in one of the American "restaurants." I love to eat the new fish in the local restaurants, when I visit Khon Kaen. When we are in the space and choose to stay into watch a DVD movie, she just likes to call the Pizza Company for a few pizza and chicken wings. I have the pizza and she devours the wings. Breakfasts usually are common fare of rice and eggs with perhaps a sausage or two. Sporadically it'll be Thai soup or a noodle dish like pad thai. Once in a while we prefer to search for a lodge run by foreigners and they've an "American" morning meal. Meals are snacks for me personally. I like to get some chicken or pork BBQ over a stay with some sticky rice. Or, if my girl is in a great mood, she will drive over to KFC and grab some hot chicken sandwiches. We both appreciate the Khon Kaen restaurants which are around the lake or rivers. They've these little, thatched stands with great views. The food and service is very good and some have a band playing local Thai country music. Therefore, Thailand gets the most useful of both sides. It is possible to get something from a pizza to some cheeseburger, or fried rice and noodles. Good food and very charges. Another reason I love Thailand.
