Ultimate Frisbee originated on university campuses and then spread to other facets of  activity available for individuals. Joel Silver is credited with getting  a number of his friends considering the idea of a competition for  Frisbee. They already enjoyed the experience and they were looking for a method to ensure it is more of a problem for them. Ultimate Frisbee changed it from  a leisurely activity to one that people opted to compete against each-other in. 

Gold  actually came up with the concept in 1967 but it wasnt really applied at area schools until around 1970. In 1972 the very  first competition happened among schools. The teams were from Rutgers and Princeton. 

In 1975 the first  Intercollegiate Ultimate Frisbee Championship was held at Yale ultimate demon .  Nine teams showed up to represent their colleges in the  match. From the following year although competition for the  event-had doubled to sixteen colleges coming to compete and to check things out. Penn State increased the stakes for final  Frisbee in 1979. They offered to host a five region  title. 

Today you can find college  ultimate Frisbee groups throughout the world. They continue to complete in nearby, regional, and national  contests. At some schools it is a very big deal and there  are even scholarships provided for these types of  activities. Most universities that take part in supreme  Frisbee opposition have teams for both females and males.
