Opis:
In a ceremony in Oslo on May 23, the 2017 Abel Prize was presented to
Yves Meyer for "his pivotal role in the development of the mathematical theory
of wavelets". I will review how wavelets and siblings were born, the theory
behind them, and explain how they are used for compressing images in JPEG2000
algorithm.
