Discover the TOP 5 things ALL superstar students have in common!8713354

After spending years both learning with and teaching science students, I have found that there are certain patterns that separate average students from superstar students.
These top 5 differences are relatively easy to understand, but understand that applying them will be very powerful for you:
1. Top students think years ahead of where they currently are in school:
Probably the most common trait I see in all successful students is that they think towards the goal they are trying to achieve years ahead of where they currently are. They get motivated and constantly remember their end goal which drives them to succeed and keep pressing on. It is this vision that keeps our future doctors, engineers, anyone trying to achieve something great to keep pressing on without stopping.
This reminds me of one of my friends who is currently doing anesthesiology rotations with The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He spends most of his time with some of the brightest medical minds in the northeast and told me that when he first came to America at age 12, he could not speak a word of English, but he knew he wanted to be a doctor. Through years of work, and keeping his vision fresh in his mind, he is now officially a doctor, and only has 1 more year left before he is practicing full time.
2. Top Students are always looking for the edge:
All top students take it upon themselves to gain every advantage that is possible when it comes to their academics. If that means spending more time studying, studying with others who have more knowledge, or learning from those who have already gone through their classes, they make sure they take advantage of every opportunity.
As a tutor, I know of certain families (who I cannot name), that pay over $1,000 a week for extracurricular tutoring for their children on top of paying for top private schools! This may seem excessive to some, but to these families, they know that exposing their children to the best and the brightest teachers is key to their academic and intellectual growth.
Now this does not mean you need to spend this type of money to gain academic success, as my friend above is proof of, but it does mean that if you have the resources, you should do everything in your power to use them to your advantage.
3. Top students are Competitive:
It's no secret that learning takes time and effort. There are ways to doing more in less time, and anyone can learn those techniques, but all else being equal, the students who crave to win and accomplish top scores do the best. This is not the same as wanting others to fail, that is not productive, this is simply demanding more from one self and wanting to rise above the rest and make a strong statement for success.
4. Top students follow schedules:
The way I was able to pull an almost 4.0 GPA my last 2 years of college was by following a schedule in addition to these other techniques and traits I am outlining for you. I noticed when I was in college that the best students made specific blocks of time solely dedicated to studying and nothing else. They would remove all distractions, turn off their cell phones and get down to business. This did not mean however that the top students I know didn't make time for relaxing, as a matter of fact, they rewarded themselves for studying and were able to relax even more after knowing that they put in the work they needed. Believe me, it's much more fun to be with friends knowing that you are on track and did the necessary work for the day as opposed to being with friends and constantly worrying about a pile of work that is waiting for you when you get back.
5. Top students are always learning:
If you want to be a top student, you can't act like other non-students. Some people think that the finish line to learning is when college ends. The fact that people think like this is the exact reason why so many have problems succeeding academically. Top students make learning a part of their lives, not a task that needs to be completed and then completely shunned at the first opportunity. If you talk to any high-achievers, the vast majority of them will be improving themselves even when they don't have to be. I'm sorry if you had a boring instructors in the past, I personally try to make science interesting because it is! The fact is that if you look at learning like these other students do, you will be able to see why they love learning and why they are able to take in so much. Realize that learning and always expanding your mind is a part of life, and you will see that studying becomes much easier because the more you learn, the better your future life and expectations can become!
