What was it like to work with Will Rothhaar and develop the challenging dynamic between your characters? Did you feel like you were transported into another era?
Monday April 29th Portable Barge Services came down to the marina and marked out the coordinate for the dredge and were ready to begin digging the following Tuesday. PBS (Portable Barge Services) had some very heavy operating equipment for this project which included a huge backhoe, three barges, and a small work boat. The backhoe sat on one of the three barges and dug down into the water to scoop out the material. I think it will be great for all businesses around here. It's going to increase traffic and ultimately increase the amount of people that see our business and visit our business," he said.
Aklilu said the city needs to come up with a plan soon, or her popular restaurant may not survive. Born in Ethiopia and raised in Italy, Aklilu has built a loyal following over the years, thanks in part to her own worldly charm, her acclaimed cuisine and numerous philanthropic Marina One events, including an annual Thanksgiving event at which she serves elegant meals to hundreds of the area's homeless people. Aklilu said the combination of construction and rising rents - thanks in part to rebounding land values - could be too much to overcome.
Along with the spate of development, city officials could soon spend $600,000 to beautify the North Causeway through a revenue bond that will also be used pay for other capital projects around the city. Designed by Christoph Ingenhoven , Marina One covers a total gross floor area of approximately 3.67 million square feet. The development will include two 34-storey residential towers, two 30-storey prime grade A office towers and a retail podium, The Heart, which will feature lush greenery and landscaping by Gustafson Porter and ICN Design. Seating and seven education plaques are placed within the 500+-foot fence/wall. Two destination seating areas are located at both ends of the enclosed area. A literal “Open Circle” at the southeastern corner of the habitat area will become the prime destination area for observing birds and nature. This seating area will have 30 linear feet of seating built into the retaining wall’s spiral shape, as well as a large central rock for seating. At the northeastern corner will be 18 linear feet of seating and a path between where people can sit and look across to each other and the views beyond.
The harbor has around 35 slips open for transient boaters, and it has been using those slips in the previous rebuild phases to accommodate boats displaced by the construction. But the 40-foot boats on Finger M will have trouble fitting in those spaces, as most are designed for smaller vessels. If we have to displace boaters, and they go down to Ventura or Channel Islands Harbor, we will be compensating them the rate difference for the slip space down there compared to what they pay here,” Treiberg said. The dredging project is part of the harbor’s six-year maintenance dredging program prepared by the Army Corps of Engineers in 2010.
In 2011, the sump tank was evaluated by Fluid Resource Management (FRM), a firm specializing in wastewater collection and treatment.
