Spring Cleaning - work but such a great pay off!
Spring-cleaning: for some a chore for others a pleasure. I discovered this routine at an early age. Now, the very thought of spring-cleaning evokes memories.
The cool curbing days of cold weather were ushered out-with an annual farm ritual: spring-cleaning, when I was a youngster, back in the land of four times and do not require water (Manitoba). No corner of our home was left untouched by polish brushes, dusters, brooms, towels and other cleaning guns. Every inch of closet was emptied, inventories were take-n, value was assessed, materials were washed and washed, and then these outfits that were still 'good' were arranged in an useful and efficient way. Bedrooms were moved, desks emptied, roofs dusted.
My memory of preference may be the window-cleaning. After windowpanes were removed for cleansing, the windowsill became a place of pure ecstasy! I can simply recall these moments: sitting on my great perch, seeing the ice break up in the creek behind our home. Big items floated by, cracking fully, rotating, bashing, piling up in a crazy proclamation of the new season's arrival. Fresh air was in abundance; pussy willows to the left, chicken feeders with chirping chickadees to the right. It was divine!
It was that sort of time where I discovered that effort takes care of. At that early age, I felt the change of power in my home and in myself after a day of washing and thorough de-cluttering. The-house felt brighter, lighter, more pleasant. I felt like skipping.
The very best part of organizing and de-cluttering for me personally to-day is hearing my customers explain similar feelings of lightness and freedom after having a program together. Whether in their home or office, de-cluttering could be a cathartic passing of the old, the begin a whole new season in life.
