Opis: | Geometric modeling is a key aspect of high-fidelity fluid flow and fluid-structure
interaction simulations, which are becoming more popular as a clinical tool for
predictions, risk assessment and analyses of blood flow mechanics. The widely
adopted approach to discretizing such domains is unstructured linear tetrahedral
meshing, mainly due to its robustness and flexibility with respect to non-trivial
domains. On the other hand, we argue that (block-)structured higher-order
approaches are worth the extra effort. In a more general context, multiple errors arise at each stage of going from
patient-specific blood vessels to their mesh counterparts; CT scan, segmentation, and meshing errors. We seek to quantify these errors, and to induce
them artificially via spatially correlated Gaussian random fields, subsequently
exploring the consequences on mechanical quantities of interest. Naturally, this
requires a substantial amount of non-stationary 3D flow simulations, which will
be discussed in this talk. |
